Ales Hemsky will stay with the Edmonton Oilers this season.

After a summer of speculation that the 29-year-old winger may be playing elsewhere in the NHL, general manager Craig MacTavish confirmed on Wednesday that the career Oiler isn't going anywhere.

"He's off the market," said Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish on Wednesday. "We want (Ales) to come in and make an impression. We want him to play a prominent role."

Hemsky is entering in his 11th season with the Oilers and has one year left on a two-year, $10 million contract he signed last summer.

"It's important to me that when you walk through the door, you have a fresh canvas," MacTavish added. "We'll offer Ales that."

MacTavish promised to make changes to the Oilers over the offseason and suggested that captain Shawn Horcoff and winger Ales Hemsky could be done with the club. While Horcoff was later dealt to the Dallas Stars, MacTavish addressed Hemsky's future in late july and said he believed he can be a useful piece for the club.

"I take this as a new fresh start," added Hemsky on Wednesday. "I've been through the good and bad and I just want to help turn things around."

In 38 games last season, he scored nine goals and added 11 assists. He has 17 points in 30 career playoff games with the Oilers and helped Edmonton reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2005-06.
