Defenceman Ryan O'Byrne is headed to the Kontinental Hockey League, signing a two-year contract with HC LEV Praha in the Czech Republic.
O'Byrne, 29, was an unrestricted free agent after playing last season with the Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 308 career NHL games with Colorado, Toronto and the Montreal Canadiens, the Victoria, B.C. native scored five goals and tallied 39 points and 369 penalty minutes.
O'Byrne was drafted by Montreal in the third round, 79th overall in 2003. He was the last player to wear No. 3 with the Canadiens after it was retired in honour of defenceman Emile 'Butch' Bouchard at the Canadiens' centennial game in 2009.
