ANTIGONISH, Nova Scotia, Canada – J.R. Fitzpatrick was fastest in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 practice on Saturday for the Wilson Equipment 300 Supporting Red Cross Disaster Relief at Riverside International Speedway.
Fitzpatrick of Ayr, Ontario, drove his No. 84 Equipment Express Chevrolet around the high-banked third-mile track in 14.544 seconds for an average speed of 82.246 mph. With 14 series career pole wins, Fitzpatrick tops the all-time list.
Defending series and race champion D.J. Kennington was second fastest in final practice at 14.552 seconds (82.380 mph) followed by local Antigonish product Donald Chisholm in third at 14.593 seconds (82.149 mph). Jason Hathaway held down the fourth position at 14.598 seconds (82.121 mph) while rookie Alex Guenette was fifth at 14.607 seconds (82.070 mph).
Mark Dilley, Noel Dowler, Martin Roy, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin rounded out the top 10 in the final practice session.
In the first practice of the day, Hathaway topped the charts at 14.641 seconds (81.880 mph) followed by Fitzpatrick, Dilley, Chisholm and Dowler.
Qualifying for the Wilson Equipment 300 is slated to get underway at 4 p.m. AT with the race to get started at 8 p.m.
