MONTREAL — Benoit Huot of Montreal will go for gold in the S10 100-metre backstroke after easily qualifying in the preliminaries Saturday morning at the International Paralympic Committee Swimming World Championships.
Huot, the gold medallist earlier this week in the 200 individual medley, cruised to the fourth fastest time in 1:04.98.
Also Saturday, Aurelie Rivard of St. Jean, Que., vies for a fifth medal after posting the fifth fastest time in the women's S10 100-metre backstroke.
Brianna Nelson of Victoria qualified with the fastest time for the S7 50-metre butterfly final. Sarah Mehain of Vernon also made the cut placing seventh.
Jean-Michel Lavalliere of Quebec City and Zack McAllister of Lethbridge, Alta., broke their Canadian record times to advance in the S7 50 butterfly and S8 100 freestyle respectively.
Also in finals tonight are Danial Murphy of Halifax in the S5 100 freestyle and Camille Berube of Gatineau, Que., and Morgan Bird of Calgary in the women's S8 100 freestyle.
Competitors in classifications S1 through S10 have a physical limitation, while classifications S11 through S13 are for competitors with a visual impairment. A lower number indicates a more severe condition.
