The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Keith Ballard on waivers.
The 30-year-old defenceman scored two assists in 36 games with the Canucks in 2012-13.
The move is not a precursor to a compliance buyout since the Canucks placed Ballard on conventional waivers and not the unconditional $100 waivers necessary to facilitate such a move.
Ballard is entering the fifth year of a six-year deal he signed with the Canucks prior to the 2009-10 season worth an average annual value of $4.2 million.
