SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Double Olympic medallist Ryan Cochrane helped his Island Swimming Club in Victoria win the gold medal in the 4X200-metre freestyle relay on Saturday at the U.S. Grand Prix swimming competition.
Alec Page, Keegan Zanatta, Cochrane and Jeremy Bagshaw clocked seven minutes 26.29 seconds for the victory.
The Swim Ontario team took the silver with Hassaan Abdel-Khalik of Etobicoke, Ont., Blake Worsley and Frank Despond of Toronto and Aly Abdel-Khalik of Etobicoke in 7:30.98.
Swim Ontario also added a bronze in the women's 4X200-metre freestyle with Paige Schultz of Toronto, Bridget Coley of Hamilton and Kennedy Goss and Heather Maitland of Toronto.
In the women's 200-m backstroke, Missy Franklin of the U.S. was the victor in 2:08.24, Kendy Stewart of the U.S., second in 2:10.72 and Hilary Caldwell of Surrey, B.C., third in 2:11.92.
Fourth place finishes were posted by Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg in the women's 50-m freestyle and Page in the 400-m individual medley.
Marni Oldershaw and Annie Harrison, both of Oakville, Ont., were fifth and seventh in the women's 400-m IM.
