With one of the likely suitors for Phil Jackson's services out of the picture in Seattle, the Toronto Raptors' pursuit of the former Los Angeles Lakers coach to become team president has become emboldened according to ESPN.com.
New MLSE boss Tim Leiweke, who has strong ties to Jackson from their days in Los Angeles, reportedly believes the Seattle group, which was attempting to buy the Sacramento Kings, were the Raptors' top competitor for Jackson's services.
The Seattle bid to buy the Kings was rejected by the NBA's relocation and finance committees on Monday and that decision is expected to leave the franchise in Sacramento.
The site reports that the Raptors will ramp up their chase for Jackson's services this week, although they are considered a longshot to pull it off as Jackson seems unlikely to move north of the border.
In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Jackson said three or four teams have expressed interest in adding him to their organizations in a non-coaching role.
This news would lead one to believe that current Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo's days are numbered in Toronto, although he is expected to meet with the MLSE board next week to discuss his future with the franchise.
