Jose Reyes' road to recovery took a step in the right direction on Monday, with the Toronto Blue Jays shortstop tweeting that his cast was removed.
Reyes suffered a severe ankle sprain earlier this month and the original estimate of a three-month recovery period has not changed.
Before his injury Reyes was hitting .395 with a .465 on-base percentage, one home run and five RBIs.
In other Jays news, pitcher Aaron Laffey elected free agency rather than accepting an assignment to Toronto's triple-A affiliate in Buffalo.
Laffey was claimed on waivers by the Blue Jays last week and made one start, giving up two runs in 2.2 innings against the New York Yankees.
