The Edmonton Oilers are close to signing defenceman Ladislav Smid to a four-year contract, according to the Edmonton Sun's Derek Van Driest.
The deal is reported to total around $16 million.
Coming off a career season in 2011-12, the 27-year-old has just three points in 34 games this season.
Smid is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
