
FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. -- Yukon's Sarah Koltun is on the verge of making Canadian curling history.
Koltun's rink defeated Ontario's Jamie Sinclair 10-3 on Friday at the national junior curling championships. With the win, Yukon and Ontario finished tied with 7-3 records and will meet in a tiebreaker later Friday for the third and final playoff spot.
No women's team from Yukon has ever made the playoffs at the national junior competition.
Either Yukon or Ontario will face Manitoba's Shannon Birchard (9-1) in semifinal action Sunday morning. The winner will meet B.C's Corryn Brown (9-1) in the final Sunday evening.
In other action Friday, New Brunswick's Jessica Daigle improved to 4-6 with a 10-6 victory over Nova Scotia's Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (3-7) while Saskatchewan's Jessica Hanson evened her record to 5-5 with a 9-3 decision over Quebec's Sarah Dumais (3-7).
There will also be a tiebreaker required in the men's division after Manitoba's Matt Dunstone and Ontario's Aaron Squires finished with 7-3 records.
Ontario had a bye Friday morning but Manitoba forced the tiebreaker with a dramatic 6-5, extra-end win over Saskatchewan.
Manitoba or Ontario will play Nova Scotia's Stuart Thompson (8-2) in semifinal action Saturday morning. The winner faces Alberta's Thomas Scoffin (9-1) in the final later Saturday night.
In other action, B.C.'s Tyler Klymchuk finished with a 4-6 record following an 8-5 win over Quebec's Felix Asselin (3-7).
