
MEDELLIN, Colombia -- Canada registered another sweep Thursday at the Fed Cup Americas Zone Group 1 event.
The Canadian team won its three matches against Venezuela after opening the competition Wednesday with a 3-0 decision over Peru.
Toronto's Sharon Fichman opened with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrea Gamiz before Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., defeated Adriana Perez 6-1, 6-4.
Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., then completed the sweep with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 doubles decision over Carmen Blanco and Gabriela De Santis.
Canada takes on Colombia on Friday for top spot in Pool A. The winner will face the champion of Pool B -- which features Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Mexico -- to determine who advances to the World Group 2 playoffs in April.
