The Winnipeg Sun observes that Jets mysteries turn into conspiracy theories quite quickly in Winnipeg, which is why Dustin Byfuglien's latest injury gained considerable speed on the Internet and on call-in shows the last few days.
Those who let the facts get in the way of a good story can rest easy: Head coach Claude Noel confirmed Sunday morning that the Winnipeg defenceman "tweaked" something while preparing for Thursday's morning skate in Florida and remains day-to-day.
The only thing Noel said about the injury at the time was that he had aggravated an injury but didn't explain how it happened. With a little more prodding this morning, Noel got specific and clarified that Byfuglien injured himself while "getting prepared" to play hockey.
"We're aware of it. We were there," Noel said. "It was all in the preparation stages of getting prepared for a game. That's what it was. They're making up stories if you're looking for something else there."
There's a chance Byfuglien will miss his third straight game on Tuesday when the Jets (3-4-1) try to end a three-game losing streak against the Florida Panthers at MTS Centre. Noel said the big blue-liner, who didn't practise Sunday, remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
