One day after the NHLPA submitted a "comprehensive" counter proposal to the document put forth by the NHL three days earlier, the two sides in the labour dispute are expected to have further discussions, Day 108 of the NHL Lockout.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger tweeted Tuesday that NHL executives continued to meet on their own late into New Year's Eve and again this morning. The NHLPA confirmed that "smaller group meetings/and or conference calls" between league and the NHLPA would take place Tuesday afternoon.

As TSN reported Monday, there are still a number of differences on some of the main issues, so today's discussions regarding these key CBA provisions are expected to be lenghty. The NHLPA told the media that it was not expecting any full committee in-person meetings until at least 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Information about the NHLPA's counter proposal has been kept very quiet, with few details being leaked to the media. TSN Hockey Analyst Aaron Ward said that was probably a good sign, but both sides are working against the clock to save some sort of season. In order to play a 48-game season, the league's stated minimum, an agreement would need to be reached by January 11 in order to start the season on January 19.

The NHLPA also has until midnight tomorrow to file a disclaimer notice, which means dissolving the union. That is unlikely to happen if progress is made before then, but the possibility is looming.
