MONTREAL -- Milos Raonic will lead Canada into its Davis Cup tie against South Africa later this month.
The Thornhill, Ont., native, who lost to British star Andy Murray in the fourth round at the U.S. Open on Monday, will be joined by veteran doubles player Daniel Nestor of Toronto, Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., and Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil.
The best-of-five World Group playoff is set for Sept. 14-16 at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal.
The South African team includes Izak Van Der Merwe, Rik De Voest, Raven Klaasen and Nikala Scholtz.
De Voest is the highest-ranked player on the squad at 177th in the world. Raonic is ranked 16th.
The winning team will qualify for the World Group in 2013 while the losers will be relegated to zone play.
"This tie is extremely important. We have the chance to remain in the elite World Group, so we have to make the most of this opportunity," said Canadian captain Martin Laurendeau. "Our team learned a lot from our loss to France in February."
Canada has won the only other Davis Cup encounter between the two teams.
