The Ottawa Senators signed centre Kyle Turris to a five-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season, general manager Bryan Murray announced Wednesday.
The new deal is worth a total of $17.5 million with an average annual salary cap hit of $3.5 million. The first year of the new deal will kick in at the start of the 2013-14 campaign. Turris, who was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the upcoming season, will have a cap hit of $1.4 million during the 2012-13 season.
The five-year contract extension for #Sens forward Kyle Turris (commencing 2013-14) will have an AAV of $3,500,000.
Turris was acquired by Ottawa from the Phoenix Coyotes in December in exchange for defenceman David Rundblad and a second-round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
The 23-year-old played 49 games with the Senators last season registering career highs in goals (12), assists (17) and points (29). The Burnaby, B.C., native also added one goal and two assists in seven playoff games against the New York Rangers.
In 186 career NHL games the third-overall pick from the 2007 NHL Draft has recorded 31 goals, 75 points and 70 penalty minutes.
