TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, Canada – Scott Steckly topped the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 practice charts on Saturday for the JuliaWine.com 100 at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres.
Steckly, the defending series champion out of Milverton, Ont., navigated the 1.530-mile track in 67.173 seconds for a speed of 81.997 mph. The owner of 11 series career victories is still in search of his first on a road course. On July 22 in Edmonton, Steckly had a dominate car, but late-race contact with J.R. Fitzpatrick knocked him from contention sending D.J. Kennington to Victory Lane.
Andrew Ranger, who has three Trois-Rivieres wins to his credit was second fastest at 67.308 seconds (81.833 mph) followed by Kennington at 67.842 seconds (81.189 mph). Kennington is looking for his sixth consecutive victory which would establish a modern era NASCAR touring series record among currently sanctioned series.
Fitzpatrick had the fourth-fastest car on the track at 67.878 seconds (81.146 mph) with local Trois-Rivieres product Louis-Philippe Dumoulin in fifth at 67.993 seconds (81.008 mph).
The remainder of the top 10 was made up of Jason Hathaway, Kerry Micks, Benoit Theetge, Jean-Francois Dumoulin and Ron Beauchamp Jr.
Qualifying for the JuliaWine.com 100 is scheduled for Saturday at 5:15 p.m. ET and the race is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
