TORONTO, ONTARIO -- Quarterback Anthony Calvillo, who guided the Montreal Alouettes to three straight wins, was named the CFL's offensive player for August on Thursday.
Calvillo completed 64-of-97 passes for 1,024 yards and seven TDs over that span, throwing for at least 300 yards in each contest.
Edmonton linebacker J.C. Sherritt was named the league's top defensive player of the month for the second straight time. He had 29 tackles, three interceptions and forced one fumble in leading the Eskimos to wins in two of their three games.
Hamilton's Chris Williams captured special-teams honours for the second straight month. The Tiger-Cats' speedy receiver returned 15 punts for 246 yards and two touchdowns in three games.
Williams has registered five kick-return TDs this season, tying him with Henry (Gizmo) Williams, Bashir Levingston and Keith Stokes for the single-season league record.
Calgary Stampeders tailback Jon Cornish was named the top Canadian. The native of New Westminster, B.C., ran for 372 yards on 56 carries and added eight catches for 75 yards in three games.
