There are two exclusive bluray audio formats. Dolby's True HD supports up to 192 / 24 in 7.1 surround (some limitations). DTS's DTS HD supports up to 192 / 24 in 7.1 surround (some limitations). Each of these formats have a lossy core -- Dolby: ac3; DTS: dts. You can find lots of documentation about these two formats on the web. Here are two to get you started:

In order to create either of these formats you must first encode your lossless multi-channel source material before creating your AVCHD. Unfortunately, encoding software is expensive. Here are two:

The audiomuxer program is very useful for working with AVCHD projects. Also, you can use its underlying components (Eac3to, aviSynth, etc.) stand-alone. Check out another free program called tsMuxer. It's a Swiss Army Knife for AVCHD. There's also an inexpensive program from Cirlinca called HD Audio Solo Ultra. There are many others out there: BDtoAVCHD, multiAVCHD, etc. Use the free imgBurn to create an ISO or burn to DVD- or BD-Rom.

Friends on the hub are invaluable when it comes to specific questions. And finally, you can find out a lot on this topic at Surround By Us. Here:

Hope this helps.
