Knicks, Suns are in the critical stages of discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would pay Nash $27M-$30M over 3 years, sources tell Y!
The Knicks' player package will likely include Iman Schumpert, Toney Douglas and three lower salary players. Only through a sign-and-trade with a package like this one can the Knicks afford to offer Nash a contract that is comparable to the one being offered by the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors made an offer to New York guard Landry Fields on Tuesday in an effort to tie him up and prevent the Knicks from using Fields as part of their sign-and-trade package.
Nash averaged 12.5 points and over 10 assists per game last season with the Suns. The 38-year-old has played 16 seasons in the NBA, winning two MVP awards.
In addition to Nash, the Knicks also plan on signing free agent Jeremy Lin and have made it clear they intend to reach deep into their pockets to match any outside offers he receives and keep the breakout sensation in New York.
