Canada's Vasek Pospisil lost to Spain's David Ferrer 4-6, 4-6 in the first round of men's tennis singles at the London 2012 Olympic Games on Sunday.
The match was delayed for several hours because of rain.
It didn't take Ferrer long to close out the 22-year-old once play resumed.
Up one set to none, the fourth-seeded Ferrer jumped out to an early two-game lead in the second set and never looked back, despite conceding two games to the Vancouver native late in the match.
Pospisil held his own in the early going, taking the first game and converting on his fourth break point opportunity to draw even 3-3. But a poor first-serve success rate and a slew of unforced errors -- 26 in total -- ultimately led to Pospisil's undoing.
Pospisil and doubles partner Daniel Nestor will play their first-round match against Romania's Adrian Ungur and Horia Tecau on Monday.
