Is the funniest painter downtown leaving his studio? Jim Carrey's artist workspace in the West Village — which he mysteriously dubbed "The Church of FFC" — is for rent. A sign is visible atop the single- story commercial space at 139 Perry St., causing neighbors to wonder if Carrey's vacating his art cave. According to a listing by Ripco Real Estate, the 2,000-square-foot space is available beginning Jan. 1, with a rental price "upon request." A source told us Carrey has re-signed his lease several times and plans to renew in December. But in the meantime, the landlord seems to be open to other offers. For those who didn't know, Carrey has focused on art for years. In January, he held an exhibition of pop paintings at Heather James Fine Art in Palm Desert, Calif. The "Mr. Popper's Penguins" star explained at the time to Palm Springs Life magazine that "Church of FFC" stands for "Freedom From Concern," adding, "It is what I now seek for myself." The for-rent sign was first spotted by revelers at a block party hosted by Sunglass Hut last week.
