Alex Brink is getting another chance to show what he can do as the starting quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Brink was 9-of-34 for 185 yards and two interceptions in a 25-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts last week.

Winnipeg coach Paul LaPolice said Brink didn't play well, but was only a play or two away from winning the game against the Argos.

"As I looked and evaluated, I saw that there were some things he did well," LaPolice said. "There's certainly a lot of room for improvement. One stat hit me. I looked at the previous week and Henry Burris, who just last night went 27 of 30 passing, he played the Toronto Argonauts the week before and he only completed 12 passes out of 20-something passes and he only threw for 181 yards. Alex threw for 185 yards. That's a guy (Burris) ... with all the experience in the world, so I decided to give Alex a chance to play again and start."

Although Winnipeg is off to an 0-4 start, with all the losses coming on the road, Brink is glad for the opportunity this week at home against Edmonton (Thursday at 8:30pm et/5:30 pt on TSN).

"I feel confident, excited again to have the opportunity," Brink said. "It's a huge point in our season. We're excited to come home and play in front of our fans and go out and get a win.

"As a youg player you're going to have ups and downs. That's one thing I know for sure, playing this game, that there's going to be good days and there's going to be bad. And the beautiful thing about playing football is that there's a game next week, and I get to go focus on that.

Brink will be helped by the return of slotback Cory Watson, who missed the first four games with a hamstring injury.

"It's gonna be great to get Cory (Watson) back," said Brink. "He's a veteran guy who's been around for a couple of years. I have a real good comfort level with him and I'm excited to have him back on the field."

Watson said he was confident in the offence.

"Once we start rolling, and once we get everyone back, I think we'll be something to really reckon with," Watson said.

The CFL on TSN panel discussed the Bombers quarterback situation before the decision to stick with Brink was announced. Matt Dunigan and Milt Stegall both thought Brink deserved another chance.

"This was his first time practicing with the starting offence since training camp," Stegall pointed out. "He had one practice - they had a short week. Give this man a full week to practice with that offence - for the receivers to get used to his count, for those offensive linemen, for the new running back. I think that once that happens, he'll give a better performance than he did last week."
