While it's not difficult to do DSD to analog for a stereo SACD, and DSD to PCM for MCH, I've never heard of splitting the channels for MCH so that only DSD to analog is applied to the FR and FL channels of the MCH mix. It sounds technically feasible, I just don't know if you would find that in any commercial application.

If I understand your question correctly, the Oppo can output DSD via HDMI, and as long as it's sent to an AVR capable of direct DSD to analog, it can be converted to analog without conversion to PCM first. However, most (maybe all?) AVR's that can do the direct DSD to analog conversion can't apply any processing, room correction, tone controls, etc. or it will convert to PCM first.

I prefer DSD to analog for stereo SACD's where room correction isn't as critical, but I like to apply my AVR's bass management and room correction for MCH, so it is converted to PCM first for MCH SACD's.

I have heard that some AVRs are able to do a HT bypass or something along those lines whereby one could use a stereo DAC to transport the L and R channels while the AVR handles the C, L and R surrounds.  Obviously with a pure DSD DAC it seems the possibility exists to output pure DSD to the stereo speakers while offloading PCM to the extra speakers.  It seems to my mind I've read this is possible.  I am wondering how that is accomplished.  What would be splitting the signals?  Would it have to be like a software based program that would send DSD to the L and R since it would be recognized as a legitimate DSD source thru usb, then send the remaining channels to the AVR for PCM?  Or would the AVR somehow be managing this?  Or even the Oppo if one were being used.  DSD to analog isn't technically pure DSD is it?  I was under the impression that it was converted to PCM for analog output.

This is exactly what I do with my Oppo. DSD direct to analog through my Denon for stereo.  For MCH, convert DSD to PCM so I can apply room correction. I wish there was an affordable soundcard DAC that could do the same.

Ah so even if you had a DAC that was DSD capable there's really no way to do like a hybrid sorta setup is there?  Like 2 channels of pure DSD for the stereo speakers and off load the rest as pcm thru an AVR?  I have nearly as many 2 channel SACDs as I have MC so that might be a good compromise if it could be done.  Thanks for the info.

In thesearch for true DSD playback, I don't think it is really worth
persuing such things as the Kingrex, if all it does is convert DSD to
PCM at high resolutions. Foobar could be made to do the same for free!
and
YES! the AVR would also have to have DAC chips capable of the Kingex's
32/384 resolution.
Just as any AVR used in conjunction with a DSD capable soundcard would
have to have true DSD DACs and not be converting DSD from the DSD
soundcard to PCM before outputting it to the speakers.
