PJ, I would offer that if you really want to upgrade sonically you should ditch that Denon receiver.  Good-quality separates would provide you with much better sound quality than can be found in a mid-fi receiver.  And it doesn't cost a king's ransom to get those separates, Emotiva have some products that punch well above their weight and have real-world prices.  Look at their UMC-1 prepro for $499 and their UPA-500 amp for $399...
