{allcanada} 'Murdoch' gears up for 5th season

What is this, Arctic Air?

That's what you might be asking yourself in the first few minutes of the fifth season of Murdoch Mysteries, which returns Wednesday, June 6 on Citytv.

Oh wait, airplanes were rare in the 1890s, so forget the Arctic Air thing. But Det. Murdoch still gets to the Yukon somehow, dammit.

Suspended for professional misconduct and nursing a broken heart, Det. William Murdoch, played by Yannick Bisson, goes to extreme measures to get away from it all. Murdoch elects to try his luck in the Klondike as the gold rush winds down. However, once there, he finds himself drawn to a mysterious murder, making him wonder if police work is more in his blood than he thought.

Murdoch also runs into author Jack London, played by guest star Aaron Ashmore. Arctic Air stars Adam Beach and airs on CBC, which coincidentally is where the sixth season of Murdoch Mysteries is headed.

Citytv declined to continue with Murdoch Mysteries in part because the show didn't fit with the network's recent directions. The Murdoch people always resented the way the series bounced around the Citytv schedule, but not many Canadian TV shows make it to five seasons, let alone six, so it depends upon how you look at it.
