Columbus Blue Jackets fans will have a chance to get a closer look at two of the team's top prospects next season.
Goaltenders Oscar Dansk and Joonas Korpisalo, chosen in the 2012 NHL Draft, both were taken in the top five picks Wednesday at the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Dansk, a Swedish goalie taken by the Jackets with the first pick of the second round, was chosen by the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League with the third pick. He had a 2.82 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 38 games for Brynas' top junior-league team last season, and also had a 1.98 GAA and .937 save percentage to help Sweden win the silver medal at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
Dansk was No. 2 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of European goaltenders for the 2012 draft, one spot ahead of Korpisalo, the Jackets' third-round pick.
Korpisalo was drafted No. 5 by the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League. He led Finland's top junior league with a 2.04 GAA and .920 save percentage in 38 games for Jokerit's under-20 team, and earned the league's best goalie award.
The Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League selected 16-year-old Russian forward Ivan Barbashov with the first pick of the draft.
The left wing is listed by NHL Central Scouting at 6-foot and 174 pounds; a late 1995 birthday, he isn't NHL Draft-eligible until 2014.
Barbashov had eight goals and two assists in 38 games last season with MVD Balashikha in Russia's top junior league. He also helped Russia win the gold medal at the under-17 World Hockey Challenge in Windsor, Ont., scoring four goals in five games.
Moncton, which finished 11th in the QMJHL standings and was swept by the Halifax Mooseheads in the first round of the playoffs, sent a player and four draft picks to the Sherbrooke Phoenix in exchange for the first pick of the draft.
With the second pick, the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL selected German forward Leon Draisaitl. A 6-foot, 178-pound left wing, Draisaitl was the German U-18 league player of the year after totaling 21 goals and 35 assists in 35 games for Jungadler Mannheim. He also helped the team win the league championship.
Draisaitl also led Germany with five assists and seven points in six games at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
Like Barbashov, he won't be NHL draft-eligible until 2014.
A number of players selected by NHL teams at last week's draft were picked by CHL teams, among them defenseman Mikko Vainonen, a fourth-round pick of the Nashville Predators, taken by the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL with the sixth pick; Florida Panthers fourth-round pick Alexander Delnov, taken No. 8 by the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL; and Dallas Stars second-round pick Ludwig Bystrom, picked 21st by the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL;
Dmitri Jaskin, a 2011 second-round pick of the St. Louis Blues, was selected by Moncton with the 22nd pick.
Each of the 60 teams in the QMJHL, OHL and WHL has a pick in the two-round draft; however, some will pass on their selections as they are allowed only two import players per team.
