Justin Morneau is reportedly battling injuries once again with the Minnesota Twins.
The 30-year-old native of New Westminster, B.C. left Minnesota's 4-3 loss to the Angels on Monday after his second at-bat. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Morneau experienced soreness in his surgically repaired left wrist.
"Hopefully it's just inflammation from [scar tissue] breaking up, and it just got a little irritated from a swing or whatever it is," Morneau told the Star-Tribune. "But the [tendon] doesn't feel loose, which is a good sign. So I'll stay positive and hope it's part of the process."
Morneau told the newspaper that he first experienced soreness in the wrist in mid-April during a series in Tampa. He said he aggravated the injury while striking out on Monday night against Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson.
The report said that Morneau will fly back to Minnesota on Tuesday to see Dr. Thomas Varecka, the same doctor who operated on Morneau's wrist in October. The earliest that Morneau could rejoin the team would be Friday in Seattle.
The oft-injured Morneau had four operations last year, and was limited to 69 games played.
"I'm not going to play worst-case scenario yet," Morneau added. "I'm going to try to stay positive, and hopefully it's just a normal part of the process and will just be a couple days and maybe [it] needs a cortisone shot or maybe some rest. So I'll stay optimistic now until I hear different."
