EDMONTON - Edmonton city councillors have been given their first formal look at the new proposed hockey home for the National Hockey League Oilers.
Architects showed videos and detailed designs for a curving steel-and-glass arena built in the rough shape of an oil drop.
The building would anchor other amenities such as a community hockey rink, bars and three levels of retail space.
The financial picture of who will pay for the $450-million project remains cloudy.
Councillors are expected to finalize the funding deal with the Oilers in July, but have now been told a more definitive price tag won't be available until early next year.
The city is moving ahead even though it is short $100 million in funding.
