MONTREAL -- Canadian tennis player Rebecca Marino says she's taking some time off because of mental and physical fatigue.
The 21-year-old from Vancouver has played just one competitive match since losing in the first round of the Australian Open in January.
Marino pulled out of the Fed Cup Americas Zone Group I event in February because of what was described at the time as "unspecified family matters."
She returned at the WTA event in Memphis a few weeks later but lost in the first round.
Marino also withdrew from recent events at Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston.
"As the days went by and became weeks, I realized I would need more than just a few days to fully recover," Marino said in a statement released Tuesday by Tennis Canada. "I have decided to do what's best for my career and make sure I am fully rested before I return to the courts.
"Once I am ready to come back, I plan to pick up where I left off, get my ranking back and challenge the best players in the world."
Currently ranked 138th in world, Marino had a breakout year in 2011. She reached the second round of the Australian Open before falling to No. 7 Francesca Schiavone in three sets.
Marino, who peaked in the world rankings at No. 38 in July 2011, also made it to her first final WTA final in Memphis, the third round of the French Open and the second round at Wimbledon.
