The National Hockey League's Calgary Flames will assume a majority stake in the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders, Sportsnet has learned.
An official announcement will be made at 3 p.m. MT / 5 p.m. ET from the players' lounge at McMahon Stadium.
The Flames currently have a five per cent interest in the Stampeders but now become majority owners. The NHL club also owns the Calgary Roughnecks National Lacrosse League.
Since 2005, a group led by John Forzani -- a former CFL player and local businessman -- has held a majority share of the Stampeders.
