{allcanada} WHL: MAXWELL, OIL KINGS DOWN VISITING HURRICANES

Tyler Maxwell is a big reason why the Edmonton Oil Kings have the second best power play in the league.

The 20-year-old centre scored his 14th power-play goal of the season as the Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Western Hockey League action.

Maxwell, who has 25 total goals this season, sits eighth in the league for goals scored with the man advantage.

Mitchell Moroz scored twice for the Oil Kings (41-15-7), who sit first in the Eastern Conference, while Stephane Legault added a single.

Brady Ramsay was the lone scorer for the Hurricanes (25-37-1), who lost for the first time in four outings and sit 11th in the Eastern Conference.

Laurent Brossoit made 31 saves for his 35th win of the season as Damien Ketlo stopped 32 of 35 shots in a losing effort.

Edmonton went 1 for 5 on the power play while Lethbridge failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was: Calgary 2, Kelowna 1; Everett 2 Portland 1 (OT); Tri-City 5 Seattle 1.

At Edmonton, Moroz opened the scoring 5:13 into the first period.

Maxwell scored on the power play at 10:10 and Moroz added his second of the game 15 seconds later to give the Oil Kings a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Ramsay scored the only goal of the second period at 19:22 to make it a two-goal game heading into the final period.

Legault secured a victory for Edmonton wil an empty-net goal at 19:32 of the third period.

At Calgary, Victor Rask scored the game-winning goal at 8:48 of the third period as the Hitmen (36-23-3) handed Kelowna (26-29-9) their third loss in a row.

Silvertips 2 Winterhawks 1 (OT)

At Everett, Wash., Ryan Harrison scored just over a minute into overtime as the Silvertips (17-36-9) edged Portland (43-15-4).

At Kent, Wash., Brendan Shinnimin exploded for four goals as Tri-City (44-15-3) cruised by Seattle (21-38-2).
