It took the shootout, but the Erie Otters have finally reached 10 wins on the season.
Dane Fox, Sondre Olden and Luke Cairns all scored in the shootout as Erie reached double digits in wins with a 3-2 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday.
Cairns' shootout goal was the winner once Otters' goalie Ramis Sadikov stopped Hunter Garlent on the game's final attempt.
Sadikov finished with 40 saves in regulation and overtime for Erie (10-45-5) and stopped two more on four shots in the shootout.
Cairns and Connor Brown had a goal and assist each as the Otters snapped a three-game losing streak.
Garlent and Kyle Pereira scored in regulation as Guelph (25-28-6) was unable to secure a critical extra point in the OHL's Western Conference standings.
The Storm (56 points) are now tied with Sault Ste. Marie, which beat Sarnia 8-2 at home Wednesday, for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Storm have two games in hand and nine games left overall.
Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Barrie 3 Owen Sound 1, Sault Ste. Marie 8 Sarnia 1 and Belleville 4 Kingston 1.
Colts 3 Attack 1
At Owen Sound, Ont., Barrie (35-21-4)scored three unanswered goals to outpace the Attack (30-24-7).
Greyhounds 8 Sting 2
At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Andrew Fritsch had two goals and an assist as the Greyhounds (25-30-6) thumped Sarnia (31-22-7).
Bulls 4 Frontenacs 1
At Belleville, Ont., Brendan Gaunce had a two-goal night as the Bulls (30-29-1) handed their division rivals from Kingston (19-36-6) a loss.
