{allcanada} CANADA'S SEHN FINISHES SEVENTH AS WC DIVING EVENT CONCLUDES

LONDON -- Eric Sehn of Edmonton placed seventh in the men's 10-metre dive-off competition on Sunday to conclude diving World Cup event.

Sehn will have to wait until June until all countries have completed their Olympic qualifying procedures, to officially know whether it was enough to secure a second Olympic spot in the event for Canada.

"It appears right now that there's a good chance," said Sehn, who faced 18 other divers in Sunday's bonus event.

"Today though didn't go as planned and I didn't dive at my best. The mistakes I made I just can't do at this level. This was the most stressful meet I've ever been involved in. So much was on the line."

Meanwhile Canada confirmed this past week that it is clearly still a powerful nation in the sport and a threat for a multi medal performance here at the Olympic Games this summer.

Canada finished the competition with three medals: a silver for Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., and Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., on women's three-metre synchro; silver for Roseline Filion of Laval and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal on women's 10-metre synchro and a bronze for Alexandre Despatie of Laval, Que., on men's three-metre.

There were also two fourth-place finishes: Filion on 10-metre was just two points short of the podium and Pamela Ware of Montreal on women's three-metre just four points behind third place.

After securing six Olympic spots at the world championships last year, Canada added four, potentially five more spots at the World Cup. That means they could possible compete in seven of eight events at the Olympics.

"We surpassed our performance targets here," said Mitch Geller, Diving Canada's chief technical officer. "We saw Alex regain that competitive spark, it was a breakout competition for Pamela Ware and Roseline Filion confirmed that she can be a second medal threat for us on tower."

Who fills those Olympic spots will be determined at the Olympic team trials May 25-27 in Montreal.
