The Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds acquired 19-year old goaltender Jack Campbell from the Windsor Spitfires on Wednesday.
In exchange, the Spitfires receive defencemen Mackenzie Braid and Patrick Sieloff along with six draft choices; Kingston's third in 2012, Windsor's second in 2013, Erie's third in 2013, Owen Sound's second in 2014, Saginaw's second in 2014, Sault Ste. Marie's second in 2015 and Sault Ste. Marie's 15th in 2016 (conditional).
"Today we completed a very significant trade which our entire staff has put a tremendous amount of research and thought into," Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas said. "We compete in a division of very tough opponents. Our goal here is to accomplish sustained success, year in and year out. With that said we feel adding a player of Jack's calibre to our lineup shows our players and our fans that we will do everything we can to reach the level we all feel our franchise is capable of reaching."
Campbell, a native of Port Huron, Michigan, is currently in his second season in the Ontario Hockey League.
Selected by the Dallas Stars in the first Round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Campbell is one of the most decorated players in his career with the United States Development Program, winning gold the medal on three separate occasions - the 2008 World Under 18 Championship, the 2009 World Under 18 Championship and the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship.
"Jack is a young man of exceptional talent and more importantly he has tremendous focus and dedication to fulfilling his tremendous potential" added Dubas. "As we move forward, a goaltending tandem of Matt Murray and Jack Campbell gives us the best chance for our club to reach our potential as a group."
Campbell is expected to join the Greyhounds later this week.
