VANCOUVER -- A brilliant season earned B.C. Lions kicker Paul McCallum the Gibson's Finest CFL Most Outstanding Special-Teams Player honour Thursday night.

McCallum, at age 41 the CFL's oldest player, received the award in voting conducted by the Football Reporters of Canada and the CFL's eight head coaches.

Chad Owens of the Toronto Argonauts, last year's winner, was a finalist this time around.

McCallum was an outstanding 50-of-53 in field goals this season for the Lions. His 94.3 per cent success ratio was a CFL record, breaking Lui Passaglia's mark of 90.9 per cent.

McCallum also made a CFL-record 30 consecutive field goals and led the league in scoring with 203 points. McCallum and the Lions will cap their season Sunday hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup at B.C. Place.

It was another solid season for Owens, who became the first player in pro football history to surpass 3,000 all-purpose yards two straight years. He led the CFL with 2,609 combined return yards and also returned one punt and one kickoff back for a touchdown.
