OWEN SOUND, Ont. -- Someone has stolen a Stanley Cup ring that used to belong to former Toronto Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard.

Ontario Provincial Police say a resident of the Georgian Bay community of Tiny Township reported some jewelry was stolen from his home while he was away.

Const. David Hobson says the homeowner is a relative of the late Ballard and calls the ring "priceless."

The ring is gold with an image of the Stanley Cup on its face.

It has the four dates of the 1961-67 Toronto Maple Leaf Stanley Cup wins on its sides and Harold Ballard's name inscribed on the inside.

Also taken was a men's Rolex watch, described as gold and silver in colour with a white face.

The theft happened sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, said Hobson, adding anyone who sees the unusual ring should contact provincial police at the Southern Georgian Bay detachment.

"I would say it falls in the category of priceless," Hobson said Thursday. "If either of these items has been seen out in the marketplace we'd be very much interested in hearing about it."
