TORONTO -- It appears that Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., will be returning to tournament tennis next week at the Japan Open in Tokyo.
Currently in Barcelona, Raonic tweeted Thursday, "off to Tokyo tomorrow, I look forward to going back there its amazing, as well as playing competitively again."
A year ago at the same event, he qualified and reached the second round before losing 6-4, 6-4 to then world No. 1 Rafael Nadal.
Raonic, who played and lost an opening-day Davis Cup singles match in Ramat Hasharon, Israel, two weeks ago, has not competed on the ATP World Tour since injuring his right hip in a fall at the beginning of a second-round match at Wimbledon on June 22.
He had surgery on the hip on July 5 in Vail, Colo.
Currently ranked No. 30, he will join headliners Nadal and Andy Murray in the 32-player field at the US$1.2-million tournament in Tokyo.
The following week, he is scheduled to play the $3.24-million Shanghai Rolex Masters in China, the eighth of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events for 2011.
