The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with centre Mark Scheifele.
He will earn $925,000, plus $700,000 in average bonuses, with a cap hit of $1.625 million per season.
While Scheifele is likely penciled into the roster for opening night on Sunday, the team can still send him back to junior after he plays nine games and avoid burning a year off the contract.
The Jets' seventh overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft led the team in scoring with four goals and four assists in five NHL exhibition games. He also collected three power play goals in the preseason.
Last season, Scheifele played his rookie year with OHL's the Barrie Colts, where he led all rookies with 53 assists.
Scheifele also competed at the World Under-18 Championship, where he led all the team in scoring with six goals in seven games.
