Edmonton Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed came to the defence of his offensive line on Monday after B.C. Lions defensive tackle Aaron Hunt accused the Eskimos of playing dirty.
"I do not coach dirty football," Reed said. "That's not the Edmonton Eskimos way."
Following the Lions heated 33-24 win over Edmonton on Friday, Hunt was outspoken about the Eskimos saying that they were the dirtiest team in the league.
'I challenge the league to review the film of the Eskimos" said Aaron Hunt. "It's a lot of dirty play."
Hunt went on to say that the Eskimos do the same thing every game and accused them of hitting one of his teammates "below the belt."
"I really don't care what Aaron Hunt feels," responded Reed. "We have the film, we know how we coach football.
"I would really hope some people would just shut up and just play football, period."
The game was an intense affair from the outset with both teams battling for playoff position. Things reached a boiling point in the fourth quarter when Eskimos running back Jerome Messam was ejected following an altercation with several Lions players.
After scoring on a two-point conversion, Messam took exception to being hit in the end zone by Lions' linebacker Dante Marsh. Messam got in the face of some of the Lions players and eventually threw a blow at the head of Lions defensive back Tad Kornegay.
A scrum ensued with Messam eventually being shown to the showers.
With the win the Lions moved into a tie with the Eskimos for second place in the West at 7-6.
The two teams will have one more chance to air out their differences in the regular season when Edmonton returns to B.C. in Week 18.
Bad blood aside, that game could have major playoff implications with the teams so close in the standings.
