{allcanada} Alfredsson out with concussion

The Ottawa Senators will need to continue their recent success without captain Daniel Alfredsson, who will be out at least a week with a concussion.

Alfredsson suffered the injury in Saturday's game against New York after getting hit in the head by the elbow of Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski.

"At this moment, I guess it's a concussion," said Senators GM Bryan Murray on Monday. "He doesn't have any headaches today and they think it'll be something that - if a concussion ever clears up fairly quickly - he will probably recover from in the next few days. He will be out for at least a week."

Wolski was assessed a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head on the play, but escaped further punishment from NHL head disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan.

"I told (Shanahan) I didn't agree that (Wolski) did go out of his way a little to make contact - that it was an elbow involved in the play," Murray said. "An elbow to the head ... I was under the impression there would be a suspension. Since our player was hurt in that particular incident, I can't agree with the ruling."

Although Shanahan didn't release an official statement or video on the incident, it's been reported that the NHL's senior vice president of player safety and hockey operations reviewed the video but deemed Wolski's actions unintentional.
