  Not sure who makes Yamahas DVD players, but  a few years ago when I was selling home theater stuff Yamaha's players were being made by Phillips, whose build quality I always found kind of dicey.  DVD players were not really their focus as compared to something like surround receivers,    The situation may be different now, but that was the way it was in not so distant past. 

   Always had good luck with Pioneer players.  Compared to Phillips, Denon and Sony, Pioneers tended to keep working and be pretty reliable.    At the same time,  I see the Oppo name coming up all the time now, and when I make the jump to Blu-Ray, chances are I will be getting one of those.     - CP
