TORONTO -- Rookie tailback Chad Kackert was named the CFL's offensive player of the week Tuesday for a solid performance in a losing cause for the Toronto Argonauts.
Kackert ran for 139 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Argos' 26-25 road loss to the Edmonton Eskimos.
Jonathan Hefney of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers captured defensive player honours. The veteran defensive back had nine tackles and a 20-yard kickoff return in a 25-20 win over the B.C. Lions.
B.C. kicker Paul McCallum was named the top special-teams player. McCallum hit on all four field goals he attempted against Winnipeg.
Slotback Dave Stala received the top Canadian award. Stala had five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Hamilton Tiger-Cats past the Montreal Alouettes 34-26.
