Vancouver General Manager Mike Gillis is prepared to give Owen Nolan a chance at a comeback in the NHL.

The Canucks announced Thursday that they've signed the 39-year-old Nolan and fellow NHL veteran Todd Fedoruk, 32, to professional tryout contracts. Both players will be given an opportunity to earn a contract and a spot on the Canucks' roster in training camp.

Vancouver expects center Ryan Kesler (hip labral surgery) and winger Mason Raymond (fractured vertebrae) to start the season on injured reserve.

Nolan, who played last season with Zurich in the Swiss League, has 885 points in 1,200 NHL games over 18 seasons. The former No. 1 draft pick for the Quebec Nordiques last played for the Minnesota Wild in 2009-10.

Fedoruk is a veteran of 545 NHL games played over nine seasons with seven teams. He has 97 career points and 1,050 penalty minutes. He last played for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2009-10.
