VANCOUVER -- Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Aleksandra Wozniak each advanced to the third round of the US$200,000 Odlum Brown Van Open on Thursday.
Pospisil, from Vernon, B.C., beat Bradley Klahn of the United States 7-6 (5), 6-3 in men's singles.
On the women's side, Wozniak, from Blainville, Que., upset second-seeded Anne Keothavong of Britain 6-2, 6-0.
In other men's play, third-seeded Grega Zemlja of Slovenia needed three sets to defeat American Steve Johnson 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3, Roman Borvanov of Moldova beat Carsten Ball of Australia 6-4, 6-4 and American Robby Ginepri downed Australia's Greg Jones 6-2, 6-2.
Pospisil and American partner Bobby Reynolds also advanced to the men's doubles semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Eric Chvojka of Montreal and Greg Ouellette of U.S.
Jamie Hampton of the U.S. scored the surprise victory of the day in women's singles after top-seeded Monica Niculescu of Romania withdrew due to injury.
Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa were both less lucky with second-round eliminations.
Dubois retired in the second set as she trailed Julia Cohen of the U.S., 6-2, 4-1, while Dabrowski fell to American Irina Falconi 6-1, 6-0.
In other women's action, Eleni Daniilidou of Greece beat American Amanda Fink 6-7 (7), 6-1, 6-4, Julia Glushko of Israel defeated Olivia Rogowska of Australia 6-4, 6-2, Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic beat Casey Dellacqua of Australia 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and Urszula Radwanska of Poland downed Arina Rodionova of Russia 6-1, 6-1.
