TORONTO -- Canada's Rebecca Marino gained direct entry into the main draw of the Rogers Cup on Tuesday when Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru withdrew due to injury.
It will be the first main draw appearance at the tournament for the Vancouver player, who holds the No. 41 position in the world rankings.
"I'm so happy to have moved up into the main draw based on the merit of my own ranking," Marino said in a release. "It also means that an extra spot can go to one of my fellow Canadian females which is amazing for the fans and Canadian tennis."
The women's tournament will be played at Rexall Centre in Toronto, while Montreal's Uniprix Stadium will host the men's tournament. The Aug. 8-14 events will be played during the same week this year for the first time.
Tennis Canada also announced that Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., were given wild-card entries into the women's draw. The men's wild-card entries went to Philip Bester of Vancouver, Erik Chvojka of Kirkland, Ont., Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, B.C., and Australia's Bernard Tomic.
Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., was given a wild card into this weekend's qualifying draw along with Toronto's Steven Diez, Pierre-Ludovic Duclos of Sainte Foy, Que., and Olympic gold medallist Fernando Gonzalez.
The women's qualifying wild cards went to Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski, Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., and Heidi El-Tabakh and Sharon Fichman, both of Toronto.
