The Calgary Stampeders are considering auditioning several kickers or making a trade to replace injured place kicker Rob Maver, who has a torn quad and is sidelined indefinitely, Sportsnet.ca has learned.
The Stamps may look at as many as four kickers on Sunday: Jamie Boreham, Warren Kean, Aaron Ifield and Rene Parades, sources tell Sportsnet.ca.
Similar to Maver, all are non-imports. Boreham and Kean are veterans who have bounced around the CFL, Ifield is a graduate of the University of Calgary, who has had tryouts with Calgary and Hamilton, and Parades has had a tryout with Winnipeg.
The Stamps have also had exploratory trade talks with other teams, sources say.
Maver was a key part of the Stamps' offence last year scoring a league-best 185 points in his rookie season. Maver was bothered by a quad injury in training camp and aggravated in the Stamps' season-opening 23-21 loss to Toronto, missing on three of four field-goal tries.
The Stamps also lost defensive tackle Corey Mace with a torn Achilles that could sideline him for the season. Mace is Canadian, so losing two non-imports with injuries is why Calgary would want a non-import if possible, to help balance the import/non-import ratio.
