CARY, N.C. -- Carolina forwards Pablo Campos and Nick Zimmerman scored two quick goals in the first half and the RailHawks won their 10th game in a row, 2-0 over the Montreal Impact in North American Soccer League action Sunday.
Campos opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season in the 30th minute. Following a lob from Chris Nurse behind the Impact defence, Campos beat goalkeeper Evan Bush with a left-footed low shot.
Four minutes later, Zimmerman followed a long ball from midfielder Johnny Steele and beat Bush with his head before scoring in an open net.
Impact forward Ali Gerba got the first scoring chance of the game in the fourth minute when his point blank shot from the middle of the 18-yard box hit the chest of Carolina goalkeeper Brad Knighton, who registered his fifth shutout of the season.
Bush distinguished himself with two consecutive saves on point blank shots from Zimmerman and Campos in the 23rd minute.
Following a turnover at midfield, striker Etienne Barbara, the NASL leader in goals and points, came on a breakaway at the 55th minute, but Bush made another huge diving save.
Impact striker Eduardo Sebrango got several scoring opportunities after replacing Leonardo Di Lorenzo in the 55th minute.
At the 61st minute, defender Amir Lowery gave the ball to Simon Gatti, who sent a cross to the second post for Sebrango, but his header was stopped by Knighton.
Sebrango had a chance from inside the 18-yard box in the 86th minute, but his low shot went a few inches to the right of the Carolina net.
In stoppage time, Sebrango came close once again when he deflected a free kick from defender Philippe Billy above the net.
The RailHawks (12-1-1) increased their lead atop the NASL to 14 points over FC Edmonton.
The Impact, seventh in the eight-team league, fell to 1-10-2.
