Good news for Alex Trebek's Achilles tendon: His Achilles' heel has been restrained.
A two-time convicted burglar who was arrested for allegedly stealing cash, jewelry and other items from the Jeopardy! host's San Francisco hotel room has been ordered to stay at least 150 yards away from Trebek and his wife.
So, Lucinda Moyers won't personally be bringing him flowers after his operation then.
Appearing on crutches yesterday at Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., to host the National Geographic World Championship, Trebek related his tale of waking up to find Moyers in his room that morning and chasing her down the hall, only to fall "in an ignominious heap to the carpeting" when his right Achilles tendon ruptured.
He's scheduled to undergo surgery Friday and is expected to be in a cast for six weeks.
"We got most of our stuff back, except the one piece of jewelry that I ever wear," Trebek, 71, told the Bay Area's KGO-TV. "It's a bracelet that my mother gave me many years ago, so that's gone. And cash. I figured she stashed it somewhere in the hotel, and we'll come back to retrieve it someday."
Moyers, who was convicted in 1990 and again in 1991 of residential burglary, could end up with a lengthy prison sentence if convicted under California's three-strikes law. She is charged in this case with felony burglary and receiving stolen property and has requested that a public defender be appointed for her.
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Jeff Ross increased her bail to $625,000 and set arraignment for Monday.
