TORONTO - The Run, Walk N' Wheelathon will put rubber to pavement for spinal cord research.
The event will help to kickoff the Honday Indy Toronto on July 7 with participants and IndyCar fans treading cheek by axle on the race course in support of the Shoot For A Cure Moto-Sport campaign, put on by the Canadian Spinal Research Organization, and the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation.
"The event is a highlight on the CSRO's event calendar," executive director Mike Dorman said. "No where else can you get this close to an actual event site of this magnitude."
A $25 registration fee gets participants a race kit, burgers and refreshments as well as a chance at prizes. An online pledging option of $150 or more waives the $25 fee.
"We recognize the importance of safe driving both on and off the track," Honda Indy vice-president Charlie Johnstone said. "Together, we can make a large impact on the lives of those with spinal cord injuries."
Now celebrating 25 years of racing, the Indy has grown to become Toronto's largest annual sporting event since Bobby Rahal won honours at the inaugural competition in 1986.
The Honda Indy features festivities centred around Exhibition Place, including live entertainment and celebrity athletes, in the countdown to waving the green flag on July 10.
