The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed defenceman Ladislav Smid to a two-year contract worth $2.25-million per year.
The 25-year-old has spent the past five seasons with Edmonton after being acquired in 2006 as part of the trade that sent Chris Pronger to Anaheim. Smid appeared in 78 games in 2010-11 collecting 10 assists and 85 penalty minutes.
The Czech defender has scored four goals, adding 40 assists and 276 penalty minutes in 331 career NHL games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round, 9th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by Anaheim.
